As our community continues to grow and the need for access to quality Early Childhood Education increases, we have been working towards the formation of a Building Fund for the Preschool. In 2021 we were able to create a Building Fund (registered charity) with the hope to increase our enrolment capacity in years to come.
Our Building Fund Sub-Committee meets at the beginning of each term to discuss awareness of the Fund, promotion of the Fund to the Preschool and broader community, financial accountability, plans for fundraising and project planning and management.
Our Building Fund Committee has four members: our current Public Officer Cath Reeves (chair), past parents Levi Hick and Dickson Yan, and our Director Pauline Iacono. As well as being a charity, the Preschool has DGR (deductible gift recipient) status, which means that donations to our Building Fund are tax deductible. If you donate to this fund, you will be given a receipt for taxation purposes.
In 2018 we created a sensory room. This space was opened with the idea of holding small group learning, a break-out space for children, one on one learning with therapists (OT, speech, physio etc) and the access to various resources to aid emotional regulation.
Our first building/maintenance project is the upgrade of the Sensory Room. This space is currently cluttered with ad hoc cupboards and sensory equipment. This room is an important calming space for children who need a break from the busyness of the Preschool environment, and it is used for small group work and also by visiting therapists. Our 2021 Association General Member, Erin Foley has sketched a wonderful concept design for the space. Along with some air-conditioning, improved lighting and some new resources, we have a budget of $15,000 for this targeted project.
Following our launch event at the cinema early in 2022, and a ClubsNSW grant, we are hoping to achieve our goal amount at the Trivia Night on 15th October.
